I have been around for a long, long time; since the Piseco Lake conventions, I have served in every position within NYSTA except Treasurer. I am also a past President of the Foothills Trappers Assn. I served for just under 25 years as JTI Chairman and have been involved in issues that you guys don't even remember. Yes, I was on the Board when Gamba stole the money. I remind you that I brought my concerns about Gamba at the Herkimer Convention to then President Ed Hogan. They fell upon deaf ears. It was I that first spoke out at a Director's meeting when I spoke out against Gamba's Treasurer's Report. This brought the full matter to the attention of the Board. I spoke out repeatedly about the handling of money after the convention auctions, and not just one Treasurer. You guys have all of the answere, how many of you know about the disappearance of Money at the Tupper Lake Convention, or were you still in diapers? I agree that there should be an audit every year, believe that is being done now. As far as the handling of the Gamba matter I have not been involved with that, but I am very unhappy with how it has been handled, and yes the State Police were contacted. At one time I had a NYSTA credit card as JTI Chairman. Was not using it so turned it back into Gamba before I knew he was a thief. I have been Treasurer of another organization and fully wanted annual audits and two signatures on checks. However accomplishing that in a statewide organization is not so easy. I do want to clear the air about myself. Ever since I have been involved in NYSTA there has been constant drama and turmoil; from being threatened with arrest to years upon years of a thorn in my side by one particular JTI member. Thank God, that person was thrown off of the committee by a unanimous vote of the BOD. I am my own man and have always stood for what I think is right. The reason that I resigned is that I am sick of the Bullshit. What have I done for NYSTA lately? Absolutely nothing. My life is a whole lot better now, I just don't need all of that crap. One final note.I did protest against the shortened rat season, however I take note that there are only two or three of you doing all of the crying and whining The Complainer in Chief even got thrown off of another website because of it, but still doesn't get it. I choose my friends and neither of you are in the running! Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah. AL, you told us about a month ago you were all done commenting on this subject yet here you are still running your mouth. Do us all a favor and do what you said you would & refrain from commenting. Those of us who are speaking out are not happy with the Season Change Rule nor the perpetrators who rammed it through. We're not happy with Rockwood for lying, nor his self-serving response to the DEC as the JTI Chairman and his conflict of interests as a USDA/APHIS Federal Trapper and Fur buyer. We, and I, have payed dues to NYSTA for many years because we expected NYSTA to have our back in situations like this. Not only did NYSTA and the JTI Chair not have our back, they also actively assisted The DEC in ramming these punitive rule changes up our backside. If nobody speaks out when there is malfeasance in NYSTA finances or in the formation of trapping regulations where one man sells 1000's of trappers down the river for his own financial gain, then we as trappers deserve the loss of trapping rights & seasons that we get. So AL WEST, If you are all done participating in this rule change process and don't serve NYSTA in any official capacity, do us all a favor and go trapping. All in my opinion, of course. Have a nice day buddy. walleyed

Maybe I missed something. When I looked today, it appeared the western NY got a 11/10 opener for next year I found it on the trapping seasons section of the DEC website. That's great that the DEC chose to ignore JTI Chair Rockwood's lies in the "Official NYSTA Response", and listened to individual free trappers who chose to make comments on the season change proposal. As long as NYSTA is not going to listen to it's trapper membership, we will have to remain vigilant regarding any future rule or regulation changes because at this point, we can't rely on NYSTA to have our backs. All in my opinion, of course. walleyed

No more argument out of me. I would love to do what Walleyed suggested. Unfortunately early on in the season I suffered a tick bite which gave me a disease called Anaplasmosis. The symptoms were awful and had my wife not rushed me to the hospital when she did I might have died. We both worried that it was Covid, which proved negative. This disease is from a different variety of tick than the one that causes Lyme's. The disease affects numerous organs and my liver and heart are still not back to normal. My cardiologist has told me no activity at all, that the heart has weakened. I am awaiting some sort of nuclear testing. Consequently no deer hunting at all, trapping came to a screeching halt, a friend pulled my traps for me. Supposedly this disease can be completely cured, unlike lyme's. The nurse at the hospital told me I was close to death when I got there, at one point I had 4 doctors working on me I'm not looking for sympathy. I consider myself lucky and hope to return to full health. I do want to alert all trappers to how serious tick threats are. Shower every day, self examine, spray your animals, and spray your clothing. I wish all of you a great season, enjoy, and enjoy the spirit of the Holidays.
Al.

Maybe my emails and letters did get to someone who was listening at the DEC. I'm very happy to here about the earlier opening in my neck of the woods.

Yup, Another 15 days to trap rats before Ice and heavy snow shuts you down is a significant plus for western New York trappers. Congratulations. All our "crying & whining" as AL West refers to it may have turned the corner for you western zone guys. Good thing the DEC didn't listen to Rockwood's lies. all in my opinion, of course. w

I live in the Lake George region about 50 miles north of Albany and I trap the eastern and central Adirondacks. I am so fortunate to trap this country for so many years. To point out the symptoms of this disease: My muscles ached all over to the point that I could not sleep, high fever, hallucinations, uncontrollable body tremors, and extreme weakness. I had IV's going in both arms because the meds were not compatible in the same bag.Two bags put so much liquid into my body so fast that my lungs filled with liquids. That is what almost got me.My heart and liver are still not back to normal. I am on Doxycycline. I hope this info can help someone else. I have great Doctors, can't speak highly enough for the staff of Saratoga hospital, and thankful for the prayers of family and friends. Prayers do work.

Thank you for the well wishes. I have turned the corner, but am far from 100%.
Not looking to get into any arguments, but was able to read DEC's Furbearer newsletter today. Apparently the muskrat season changes are now in affect.

Apparently the muskrat season changes are now in affect. just another nail in the coffin for nys. trappers. thanks rockwood, hope you are proud of your self. Now furbuyer/federal government trapper Rockwood's work to disenfranchise Northern Zone trappers is complete. He can now go about his conflict of interest business nuisance trapping beaver for the federal government "rules-free" while the rest of us have to follow all the state laws which make beaver trapping harder. and buying all those prime muskrat caught a week later in the season after he stole a week of our trapping season. Instead of pressuring DEC to eliminate all these beaver trapping rules which limit effective beaver trapping success, He'd rather eliminate a week of rat season and keep it harder to catch beaver so he has more job security at his federal beaver trapping gig. I hope all you Northern Zone rat trappers remember the loss of a week of rat trapping when it comes time to sell all those prime muskrat Rockwood helped you harvest. All in my opinion, of course. walleyed
