Ok,Ok, I'll bite. What beaver trapping rules don't you like and I suppose Rockwood is to blame for them? why not have season longer in spring. about half of the time i dont get anymore than 3or 4 days of open water trapping. there hasnt been a beaver spring extension in at least 20 years why? well i will answer my own question. maybe because certain people profit from shorter beaver seasons like rockwood and his friend von. they get job security from these rules. i know AL you will say its the dec fault, you are partly right, but rockwood has the "ear" of the dec, so he has influence with them. its just common sense. thats why he should of never took his job or resigned his leadorship position in nysta. its just COMMON SENSE if you or others cant see it your not looking. also with record low prices the nysta should of been engaging dec about this instead of taking a week of traping away from nny water trappers.

Ok,Ok, I'll bite. What beaver trapping rules don't you like and I suppose Rockwood is to blame for them? Any of them, take your pick. NYS trappers should be able to operate under the same rules free environment that Federal Trapper Rockwood operates under. After all,The main reason DEC Bureau of Wildlife robbed us of a week of muskrat trapping season was to try and increase the nuisance beaver harvest by opening all water trapping seasons on the same day and thereby magically increase the beaver catch. Doesn't that sound like a stupid idea not based in reality ? Rockwood enthusiastically supported the DEC season change proposal in it's entirety while he himself operated as a Federal trapper unencumbered by ANY beaver trapping rules at all. If DEC & Rockwood wanted to increase the nuisance beaver harvest, wouldn't it make more sense to eliminate all the rules that NYS trappers have to operate under, and open the season earlier in order to quickly and efficiently harvest the maximum amount of beaver in the shortest time ? Can't wait to see what Rockwood agrees to give away when the DEC Otter Management plan is revealed and the DEC wants to add additional regulations to otter trapping, and shortens the season, and installs bag limits. We'll be lucky if we can even trap otter when Rockwood gets done advocating on our behalf. All in my opinion, of course. walleyed

Here we go again! Walleyed wants an earlier season again! This time for beaver. Why don't we just open up everything on August 1 for these fair weather trappers. Under ice? What's that? Prime? What's that? Just so these guys can use sunscreen when they are trapping those blue critters. Now Von gets dragged into it. Seems to me that Von and Rockwood are pretty smart to take Federal jobs with benefits.Who else are you going to blame?

I thought you were all done commenting on this subject. Stop being a troll and personally attacking members here. Go back to wayne's website where you had us banned and complain to someone who cares. We were talking about ways to kill more nuisance beavers without being stuck with laws that Rockwood and Von Strahan don't have to deal with as Federal Government trappers. If we want to get trappers to trap near worthless beaver that are currently nothing more than varmints & pests, then we have to remove the barriers and roadblocks that cause trappers to avoid trapping them. You can't possibly be that dense and clueless as not to understand that. If Rockwood had our back as trappers, he would advocate with the DEC as JTI Chairman to eliminate all the laws limiting beaver trappers. #1 Allow snares in water for beaver & otter. #2 Eliminate the 7 1/4" maximum jaw spread for footholds in water. #3 Allow trappers to make breaks in beaver dams. #4 Allow trapping within 15' feet of the lodge or bank den. #5 Allow a longer beaver trapping season. #6 Eliminate 48 hour trap check on beaver trapping with body-grips. #7 Eliminate maximum jaw spread on 330's for beaver/otter. I'm sure I've missed a few but eliminating these useless regulations would be a good start. All in my opinion, of course. walleyed

Let me inform you that I had nothing to do with your being banned from Wayne's site. You did that to yourself. You are right, nobody asked me to comment, but I did. Perhaps that would apply to you as well. Although I'm dense and clueless I believe your ideas are a bit over the top.You want to increase the size of traps. Our sizes are not big enough? You want a longer season. How long is enough?Looks like you want to kill every last beaver. Why don't you add dynamite to your list?
I will agree that snares should be legal for beaver and otter under ice. I will also agree with longer trap checks with body grips or snares under ice. I would also go along with teeth o n traps such as the # 14 jump. Nuisance trappers can qualify for using snares in NY. I believe all trappers should be able to snare if under ice.
I doubt you will see any of these things any time soon. In spite of my thoughts, I really don't have any trouble catching beaver. Right now, with these prices, I'm leaving them alone other than catching a few for fisher bait.
So Mr.Walleyed, to put my comments in your own words: Blah, Blah, Blah
All in my opinion, of Course.

Rockwood and company only advocate for changes that will personally benefit them and their cabal. Much like NYS trappers will never see cable restraints (SNARES) because Rockwood, Dave Miller, and the fur buyer cabal don't want them so they will ignore the wishes of the majority of NYS trappers who pay dues to NYSTA. That's the point. Rockwood & company only do what they want and ignore what the bulk of NYS's 14,000 trappers want. The sooner Rockwood resigns from any association with NYSTA, the better, and Dave Miller should be sent packing as well. We dues paying members of NYSTA shouldn't be forever responsible for paying Dave Miller's retirement pension in perpetuity. All in my opinion, of course. walleyed

AL, there are hundreds of beaver killed in nny. that are wasted because no one can get to them during the season. beaver season should run as long as rat season, again its only common sense. if we had cable restraints for land in the adks,it would have deer hunters supporting us trappers 100%

So reading the comments that were posted to the season changes proposal (posted on NY trappers assoc website), it appears that the DEC ignored any comments submitted whether by any of us or the JTI committee. It appears to me that they based their proposal off of a 2017 trapper survey, and that was going to be the only basis for the changes as far as they were concerned. This thing was getting shoved down our throats no matter what our comments were, what anyones comments were the same that will happen with the "holiday deer season", mark my word.
I also disagree with blaming Al for the Gamba fiasco. I have been told by those I trust that Al was instrumental in bringing the cheaters actions to light. Blame for the actions of a treasurer fall squarely on the president and directors shoulders for allowing it to happen under their watch. Thats where the anger needs to be directed. And then ask yourself, why did they turn a blind eye on it??

Thank you Trappermac. I fully agree with your comments regarding DEC's use of the 2017 trapper survey. For my money, public comments don't amount to squat. DEC does what it wants and to Hell with every one else. There was a time when you could work with them, but no more. Walleyed's hang up is with muskrat seasons, mine is the needless decline of the Adirondack fisher season and stupidity of their fisher management.
I too am glad to see Brandon post. He is a top notch trapper and I will never forget his accomplishments on the JTI.
The real reason that Walleye is down on me is because I have sided with Rockwood, and now Von against his never ending crying. Now he is even dragging Dave Miller into his hate campaign. Let me tell you that if it were not for Dave Miller we would not be enjoying trapping today in New York. Period. Also, Dave Miller has retired and Dave Liebig has replaced him. As for the cable restraint matter you can thank the useless NYS Conservation Council for sticking their nose where it did not belong. Finally I must say that I am proud to have friends like John Rockwood, Von Strahn, Dave Miller, Brandon, the Gidneys, Mike Finn, Bob Hughes, Dick Leggett, and a lot more that have actually worked to protect trapping in New York than a guy like Walleyed that simply wants to attack Rockwood, Von, Miller, JTI, and NYSTA.Instead of trying to improve things he is just a bitter man that wants to destroy everything. In the words of Thorpe, "That's all that I have to say about that".
In my opinion, of course.

i will continue you cant "fix" things until you get rid of the problem. we meaning nys trappers are sick of people who dont look out for are interests. its common sense, people like you AL need to resign from nysta. bod and jti. you and your friends like rockwood, von are and have been absolute failures. i dont say this to be mean but it is the truth, again common sense.
