With coyote attacks on people and pets in NYS at an all time high, and depredations upon the deer herd, small game, domestic livestock, and various native birds & small mammals increasing in intensity one would think there would be a strong appetite for the legalization of SNARES (Cable Restraints) in New York State.
Our NYSTA organization is, and has been MISSING IN ACTION on this issue for over 20 years.
While other states throughout the country have had the use of SNARES in their trapping arsenal,
New York State has been stuck on the sidelines, and marginalized while others state have reaped the benefits of this important tool in controlling varmints like coyote.
Are the rumors true that much of NYSTA leadership are against the adoption of SNARES (Cable Restraints) and have been actively blocking legalization behind the scenes for over a decade ?
Is it also true that certain major regional NYS fur buyers are anti-snare and have been silently campaigning against any efforts to make them legal ?
Inquiring minds want to know ?
All in my opinion, of course.
What say the nytrapper forum peanut gallery ?

To say NY DEC is slow in changing or adopting rules is an understatement. They creep along like a glacier. You need biologist etc... getting paid for years on end doing the same research over and over till anything happens ( if it ever does) protecting their jobs instead of doing their jobs.

Very true turtle, But without any encouragement from the voice of trapping in NYS; Our intrepid NYSTA organization, what reason would DEC Bureau of Wildlife have for enacting a regulation allowing the use of SNARES (cable restraints) on their own. Without someone to give them a nudge, the DEC Bureau of Wildlife is like an ostrich with it'd head in the sand. We need someone like the JTI Chair ROCKWOOD, who happens to be anti-snare (and has been blocking the adoption of snaring for years), to get off his dead arse and advocate for them on the membership's behalf. This is never going to happen as long as he is the JTI Chair, and doing the bidding of his behind the scenes master at the top of the fur buying hierarchy. All in my opinion, of course. walleyed
